A high quality paint designed for timber post and rail fencing, or any timber fencing for that matter. Water based for easy and safe handling.  Includes a number of additives including a chewing deterrent for horses/animals, anti-mould defence additive to work against fungal/mould growth and also Hot weather additive to make application a breeze even when applying in hot weather.
The biggest enemy to paint is heat, particularly black or dark paints, so we’ve formulated this to last as long as possible (hopefully 6 – 10 years as long as your timber is solid and doesn’t move/crack).  Make sure you read further notes below if you’re serious about creating a good looking fence!
Points to note
- For maximum longevity we recommend applying Forever Primer as an undercoat and then 2 x coats of Forever Black as top coat
- We understand that sometimes you’re back fence doesn’t warrant the same love and attention as the front fence… for those of you who opt to cut a corner or two we have include some ‘self primer’ in the forever black so yes you can just go ahead and apply 2 x coats of Forever Black without the primer as long as you’re aware that it wont last as long as the fences with the primer.
- Note: Pay particular attention and thoroughness to the tops of your rails and posts when applying the Forever Black. This part of the fence will cop the harshest treatment from the midday sun and in particular little droplets of dew or rain which have a magnifying effect when the sun shines through. So in short, at least 2 x solid coats to the tops of the posts and rails making sure it is thoroughly bonded.
- Top Tip: For your rails make sure all splitting edges are removed.  We recommend using hand plane/router to chamfer the edges of all rails. This reduces the likelihood of the edge timber splitting out which will result in cracking the paint layers introducing moisture an paint peeling.
- Treated Pine:  Disclaimer: treated pine post and rail fencing is a paint suppliers nightmare 😊. No seriously, if your treated pine fencing is new we recommend a couple of options:
- Leave your fence for 12 – 18 months to completely dry and hopefully stabilise so that there is minimal cracking and movement left in the timber.  Then waterblast and apply paint. Paint cannot sustain the level of movement and cracking that comes with treated pine timber as it dries.
- If you want your fence coloured immediately – us the Natura Stain which soaks into the timber and doesn’t create a sealed layer like Forever Black so the cracks/movement doesn’t create a peeling issue.  Natura Stain is compatible with Forever Black so when the time is right you can go ahead and apply the primer/Forever Black for that beautiful black long term finish.
- Hardwoods: Hardwood is often full of tannins which doesn’t allow the primer/paint to bond and succesfully seal the pores of the timber. So you need to let hardwood ‘weather’ for at least 6 months.  Before painting you must do the ‘water test’.  The water test is simply putting a small teaspoon size pool of water in multiple spots along the post and rail fence and if the timber absorbs the moisture in 60 seconds or less you are ready to waterblast and paint.  If not, the timber needs to weather for longer.
- Preparation:  the paint is only as good as the preparation.  Your fence must be completely free of all dust, grime, mould, dirt etc etc etc.  We recommend a 3000PSI water blaster for cleaning the fence. If the timber is old waterblast off the dead layer of timber so the paint can stick to the solid timber underneath.  Remove all loose or cracking timber.
- Application: Fine to use a roller, brush or spray gun.  As the paint is relatively thick you may need to adjust your nozzle size or filter gauze size to let the paint flow through freely.
